As Uganda prepares for its highly anticipated 2026 General Elections, the Mufti of Uganda, Sheikh Shaban Ramadhan Mubaje, has urged Muslims to intensify their worship, uphold discipline, and demonstrate patriotism during this critical period.
In a statement released this week, Sheikh Mubaje encouraged believers to translate their faith into responsible action within their communities, emphasizing that personal devotion should be reflected through tangible contributions to society.
Reflecting on the achievements of 2025 and offering guidance for the year ahead, the Mufti highlighted the importance of individual responsibility, good deeds, and community service.
“Devote yourselves to striving to fulfill the will of Almighty Allah through constant worship, good deeds, and passionate service to others in your respective communities,” Sheikh Mubaje wrote, punctuating his message with several Qur’anic verses.
He also acknowledged several milestones achieved by the Uganda Muslim Supreme Council (UMSC) over the past year, including developments in infrastructure, education, health services, economic empowerment initiatives, and the successful resolution of legal matters affecting the council.
Sheikh Mubaje commended the UMSC staff for their dedication to governance, accountability, and the strengthening of institutional systems.
The Mufti expressed deep gratitude for the collaboration between the Muslim community, the government, other faith groups, and development partners, describing it as a model of national unity that can guide the country during sensitive periods such as elections.
However, Sheikh Mubaje’s guidance on the upcoming elections formed a central part of his message. He urged Ugandans to remain calm, disciplined, and patriotic as they prepare to exercise their constitutional right to vote in January 2026.
“As the country approaches the election period, I urge all Ugandans to exercise their right to vote with self-restraint, wisdom, and a clear mind,” he said.
“Elections are temporary, but our responsibilities and relationships will continue throughout the year and beyond.”
The Mufti emphasized that Islam flourishes through responsibility, sincerity, and trustworthiness. He encouraged believers to let their actions speak louder than words, urging them to act as models of integrity within their communities.
Sheikh Mubaje further stressed that faith is not only about personal worship but also about contributing positively to society. He highlighted that responsible, ethical action in daily life reinforces social cohesion and strengthens national development.
“Let your faith guide your actions toward building unity, understanding, and progress in your families, neighborhoods, and communities,” he added.
Observers note that Sheikh Mubaje’s message comes at a critical juncture as Uganda approaches a contentious electoral season.
His call for calm, discipline, and patriotism seeks to reinforce peace, tolerance, and civic responsibility among citizens during a period often marked by political tension and heightened public scrutiny.
The Mufti concluded by reminding believers that lasting impact is achieved not through words alone but through consistent, responsible action.
He called on Muslims to serve as examples of integrity and civic responsibility, underlining that national progress relies on the collective efforts of disciplined and principled citizens.
